Montefranco is located about 10 kilometers upstream from Terni, on the right bank of the Nera river. It is classified as zone D in the climatic classification, which means it has a rather cold climate. However, during the summer, temperatures can reach 30 °C, making Montefranco a very pleasant and lively place during that time of the year.

The demography of Montefranco is constantly evolving. Although the population is relatively small, the town has many young families that give the city a youthful and vibrant atmosphere.

Montefranco is crossed by the state road 209 Valnerina and in the past was served by the Fontechiaruccia station of the Terni-Ferentillo tramway. The tramway, created to facilitate the transport of goods and people along the Nera Valley, was important for the growth and development of industry in the region.
