Montefino

Welcome to Montefino

Hello everyone! Today we are talking about Montefino, a beautiful Abruzzo town that I recommend visiting if you are a lover of Italian history and culture. With only 943 inhabitants, Montefino is a small village located in the province of Teramo. Since 2003, it has been twinned with Aiterhofen, a city in Bavaria, and is part of the mountain community ''Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba''.

The history of Montefino

Montefino has a history that dates back to the 12th century, during the Norman period, when it was a small fiefdom with only 65 inhabitants held by Trasmondo di Colle Madii. In 1468, many Albanian families arrived in Montefino to escape the Ottomans, and the nearby hamlet of Villa Bozza grew considerably. In 1600, the University of Atri established a new pact with the Slavs and the men of Villa Bozza, confirming the feudal rights of Atri over Villa Bozza. In 1862, the town was renamed Montefino.

Monuments and places of interest

If you love history, Montefino offers many attractions, including:

Corte Castle

The castle dates back to the 12th century and was part of the county of Penne. Today it has been restored and only a circular tower linked to a complex of houses remains of the castle. The tower has a crown of round arches at the top with a tiled roof.

Church of Madonna del Carmine

The church dates back to the 14th century and has been renovated in a Baroque style. The portal of the facade is simple with an architrave and tympanum. The bell tower is a tower.

Church of San Giacomo Apostolo

The church dates back to the 17th century and is entirely in Baroque style. The interior is a single nave with eight altars of marble columns.

The society of Montefino

Montefino has a population of only 943 inhabitants and its demography has remained largely stable in recent years. The town also has a local administration that takes care of managing public services and maintaining infrastructure.

The administration of Montefino

The administration of Montefino is elected directly by citizens and is composed of the mayor and the municipal council. The current mayor is Mario Marcozzi.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Montefino is a small town that offers many historical and cultural attractions for those who want to discover the less touristy Italy. If you are near Teramo, I recommend stopping in Montefino and strolling through its medieval streets and monuments.
