To learn about the history of Zepponami, we must refer to the Council of Trent of 1545/63, which imposed on the Bishops to reside in their dioceses. Thanks to the pastoral visits that followed, we know that already in 1630 there was a place called Montisole, and that in 1734 the inhabitants of the area had built a small church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Lily. In the eighteenth century, the isolated patriarchal family turned into a small village, thanks to the construction of close or attached buildings, which gave rise to a kind of "defensive appearance".
Life in Zepponami
Until the twentieth century, the inhabitants of Zepponami lived thanks to the work of the fields, but the living conditions were very harsh. The lack of rest, malnutrition, infant mortality and poor hygiene meant that the Montefiascone hospital was frequented only in cases of extreme necessity. But despite everything, the residents of Zepponami have always tried to cope with the difficulties, organizing festivities and celebrations. The most famous is undoubtedly the Chestnut Festival, which takes place every October.
