Physical Geography
Montefalcone Appennino borders the municipalities of Amandola and Comunanza to the west, Santa Vittoria in Matenano to the east, Smerillo and Monte San Martino to the north, and Force to the south, with the Aso river in between. The municipal territory is predominantly hilly, with an average height of over five hundred meters, except for the flat strip along the Aso river to the south. The highest point of the village is reached by the limestone cliff at the top of the wooded mountain, which overlooks the Monti Sibillini mountain range to the west.
History
Montefalcone Appennino has a long history dating back to the Roman era. Under the Abbey of Farfa, the city grew rapidly, with a fortress and a school for clerics. In 1214, the village acquired Communal Freedom. Montefalcone was involved in the fights between Ascoli Piceno and Fermo, passing from hand to hand between different governing entities. In the fifteenth century, the village was under the control of the Orsini family.
