The name "Corvinus" indicates the Valeria gens, an ancient Roman family from Magna Graecia, and their possessions. In 269 BC, the Romans defeated the Piceni, forcibly transplanting them to Campania. Thus, Picenza was born, which suffered several rebellions by the Picentini. It was then obliged not to be rebuilt, but only to have small nuclei scattered throughout the territory. Here, Montecorvino was born, whose name derives from the presence of Corvus on the heights of Mount Nebulano overlooking the town. The term "Rovella", on the other hand, derives from the adjective "Ribellus" (rebel) indicating the inhabitants of Picenza who rebelled against the authority of Rome.
