A Bit of History
It is likely that the village developed around the monastery of Sant'Arcangelo, already existing in the 10th century. However, it remained a small village, mentioned in 1532 and then in 1669 with the name of Mont'Acorice. In the 18th century, it was owned by the Giordano family with the title of a duchy.
During the Kingdom of Naples and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, it was a village administered by the municipality of Ortodonico. From 1811 to 1860, it was part of the administrative subdivision of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies ## Circondari of Castellabate, belonging to the District of Vallo of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies. From 1860 to 1927, during the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946), it was part of the district of Castellabate belonging to the district of Vallo della Lucania. In 1930, the municipality changed its name to Montecorice, and Ortodonico became a fraction.
