Monte Cremasco

Welcome to Monte Cremasco!

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a small municipality in the province of Cremona: Monte Cremasco, or as it is called in the local Cremasco dialect, "Mucc".

Monuments and places of interest

If you are passionate about history and religious architecture, Monte Cremasco has beautiful churches to visit. The church of Saints Nazario and Celso was first mentioned in 1582 but its current appearance dates back to a partial renovation carried out in 1834. On the other hand, the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Assi probably has very ancient origins and its current appearance dates back to an expansion carried out in the 16th century.

Society

Try to guess how many inhabitants Monte Cremasco has... only 2241! With an area of 2.35 km², it is the smallest municipal territory in the entire province of Cremona, but despite this, it is the third most densely populated.

Ethnic and foreign minorities

As of December 31, 2020, foreign citizens are 126. The numerically significant national communities are Morocco with 72 people and Romania with 54.

Infrastructure and transportation

The town is crossed by the SS 415 Paullese expressway, which was doubled and requalified between 2010 and 2012. In addition, there are some provincial roads that cross the territory such as the SP CR 36 from Monte Cremasco to Palazzo Pignano and the former SP CR 73 Monte-Cremasco-Crespiatica municipal road.

Administration

Also worth knowing is the list of mayors from 1985 to the present.

Notes and bibliography

For more information and in-depth analysis, I recommend reading the book "Terre Nostre" by Angelo Zavaglio.
