The municipality of Montanaso Lombardo has a history that dates back to the tenth century when it belonged to the Diocese of Lodi. Later, it passed under various lords, including Matteo Visconti in 1295. Between 1809 and 1816, it became a fraction of the city of Lodi before regaining autonomy with the formation of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom. In 1862, it officially took the name Montanaso Lombardo. In 1870, the municipality of Arcagna was added to Montanaso Lombardo.

The coat of arms and flag of the municipality of Montanaso Lombardo were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on March 25, 1988. The shield is semitroncato: a poplar tree symbolizes the green and fertile countryside of the area; a mill wheel, the work and industriousness of the community, ready to defend their environment; the third partition is cut into silver and blue. The flag is a split cloth of blue and white.
