Patrignone
Patrignone: a historic village among the Marche hills
Hello friends! Today I want to talk to you about Patrignone, a charming hamlet of Montalto delle Marche, which with its historic layout set in the hilly landscape, manages to give us breathtaking views.
History
Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages and it was owned by the Farfa Abbey since 1074. Later, in 1249, it passed into the hands of the city of Ascoli Piceno. After being a fraction of Montalto for a long time, it became an autonomous municipality from the Napoleonic age until the Unification of Italy, when it was again aggregated to the current capital.
What to see
Patrignone retains its historic layout, with doors and traces of a city wall, and buildings from the 15th-17th centuries, including the Romanesque-Gothic church of Santa Maria de Viminatu. Moreover, like the castle of Ascoli, it takes part in the annual Knights Joust of Quintana.
Craftsmanship
Despite its small size, in the 16th and 17th centuries there were important artists and craftsmen, such as the painters Agnello and Bonfini, and among the Bonfini there were also skilled woodcarvers and carpenters.
Twinning
It is interesting to know that Patrignone is twinned with its namesake in the municipality of Arezzo.
Conclusion
I conclude this presentation by telling you that Patrignone is a perfect destination for lovers of history, art, and nature. If you are in the Marche region, I recommend visiting this historic village among the hills, to immerse yourself in its beauty and discover its millenary history.
