Montaldo Roero: a Commune in Roero
Hello friends, today I'm going to talk about Montaldo Roero, a commune located in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, with a population of about 848 inhabitants. The territory of Montaldo Roero is included in the geographical delimitation of Roero, a Piedmontese area characterized by hills and vineyards.
History of Montaldo Roero
Montaldo Roero was first mentioned in documents thanks to the confirmation of Pope Eugenio III to the church of Asti. In 1387, Montaldo Roero was enfeoffed to the Roero of Canale and in the following years the total jurisdiction was acquired. In 1434, the commune was renamed "Mons Altus Rotariorum". In the fifteenth century, the Damiano di Priocca and the notary Ludovico "de Valpono" joined the Roero as consignores. In the sixteenth century, several families such as the Colonna di Baldissero, the Isnardi di Sanfrè, the Fissore di Bra, and the Rumone di Asti received investiture from the bishop of portions of territory. In 1680, the feud belonged to the Carron of St-Thomas. In the mid-eighteenth century, only the Carron and the Scarampi remained in Montaldo Roero.
