Montaldo Bormida

Welcome to Montaldo Bormida!

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Montaldo Bormida, a small town with just 619 inhabitants located in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont. Montaldo is a charming place, nestled in the Alto Monferrato, between the valleys of the Bormida and Orba rivers.

Physical geography

Montaldo's territory is hilly and is located between the plain of the lower-middle section of the Bormida river and the Ligurian Apennines. The town is about 11.6 km from Ovada and 13.5 km from Acqui Terme. Here you can enjoy wonderful landscapes: rolling hills as far as the eye can see, vineyards that stretch to the horizon, and ancient oak forests.

History

Montaldo's history is very ancient and fascinating. As early as 1164, the town was known as "Ambo Carpineta", but it did not have an autonomous name. It was only from the 14th century that the town was expressly mentioned and over the centuries it passed under different jurisdictions and noble families. In 1863, thanks to a decree by King Victor Emmanuel II of Savoy, Montaldo was authorized to assume the name "Montaldo Bormida".

Attractions

Montaldo Bormida is a perfect place for those looking for relaxation and tranquility. Here everything seems to slow down and life flows peacefully. I recommend taking a walk through the streets of the town, admiring the stone houses and ancient churches. The Church of Montaldo is particularly interesting, as it was built with the remains of the castle that once protected the town. You can also admire the tower, the only remaining part of the ancient walls, which today houses a Tamburello court, a sport widely practiced in the area.

Typical products

Montaldo Bormida is famous for the production of excellent wines and grappa. In 1956, the "Tre Castelli" social winery was founded, which includes the productions of Montaldo, Carpeneto, and Trisobbio. Here you can taste the Barbera, Dolcetto, and Moscato wines, accompanied by typical Piedmontese cuisine dishes, such as fassona steak tartare, tajarin pasta, and mixed boiled meats.

Events

Montaldo Bormida is particularly lively during the summer months, when numerous festivals and town fairs are organized. The patron saint's day is celebrated on August 15, in honor of the Assumption of Mary. If you are in town during that time, you can attend the procession and participate in the party held in the square.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Montaldo Bormida is a charming place, with ancient charm and breathtaking landscapes. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy nature, this is the perfect place for you. Discover its beauties, savor the typical products, and let yourself be conquered by its inhabitants' hospitality. Come visit us in Montaldo Bormida, we are waiting for you with open arms!
