Montacuto, also known as Montèigo in the Ligurian language, is located in Piemonte, in the Alessandria province, and is situated in the Curone Valley on the Museglia stream, at the foot of Mount Giarolo. The History of Montacuto
Since the Lombard period, the territory where Montacuto stands today was among the possessions of the Abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio, inserted in the territory of the monastic court of Casasco. During the Middle Ages, the town was under the jurisdiction of the bishops of Tortona from 1157 and was assigned in fief to the Malaspina family. Later, it passed to the Frascaroli family. Montacuto was the seat of an important parish church in the thirteenth century, from which all the parishes of the valley depended. The communal patron of Montacuto is Fermo and Rustico and is celebrated on the second Sunday of August.

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Montacuto was granted by decree of the President of the Republic on March 4, 2002. In the left partition (heraldry) are depicted the arms of the Frascaroli family.

Montacuto has the remains of the castle, rebuilt in the seventeenth century and later abandoned, and the church of San Pietro, rebuilt in Baroque style in the seventeenth century. Both places are definitely worth visiting to admire the history of the city.
