The history of Monsampietro Morico

The name of the village dates back to 1061, during the pontificate of Pope Alexander II. The founder of the village, Malugero Melo, son of the Norman noble Drogone d'Altavilla, decided to found three castles in Fermo, Monsampietro Morico, Sant'Elpidio Morico, and Monte Rinaldo (Morico). The village was protected by high and solid walls.

In 1317, the village voluntarily submitted to Fermo, following its historical events after it had been repeatedly attacked and conquered. In 1407, the deputy delegate of the Marca Da Varano occupied it with his troops. During the short period from 1415 to 1416, it was under the rule of Malatesta.
