Monastero di Vasco is a town located in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, with a population of 1299 inhabitants. The municipal headquarters and capital is the hamlet of Roapiana, which includes an additional 16 hamlets. Despite not being a tourist or industrial destination, it has captured the interest of locals due to its ideal hilly location as a residential site outside the city.
History: between Gruzzi and Salt Wars
The first historical information on Monastero di Vasco dates back to the year 1000 when the Sancti Benedicti cell was founded, which later became a convent and priory in 1180, from which the name of the monastery originates. Until 1699, during the Salt Wars, Monastero di Vasco was part of the Districtus of Mondovì. During these wars, the center suffered significant destruction, and much of its population was deported.

The coat of arms and standard of the town of Monastero di Vasco were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on February 5, 1988.

The Monastery of Vasco, although now reduced to few remains, left traces of its presence through the two carriage and pedestrian gates. The chapel of San Lorenzo is located on a hill overlooking Mondovì and is worth a visit. The parish church of San Pietro and Paolo in the capital Roapiana is an elegant example of eighteenth-century architecture.
