Welcome to Moglia!

Hello everyone! Today I'll talk to you about Moglia, a small town in the province of Mantua, in Lombardy. Located in the Po Valley, it borders various municipalities, including San Benedetto Po, Quistello and Gonzaga.

Physical Geography

The municipal territory of Moglia stretches over 31.55 square kilometers, including the capital and the hamlets of Bondanello, Coazze, and Trivellano.

Wife: From the devastation of the earthquake to the reconstruction.

Seismicity

= The 2012 Earthquake =

Unfortunately, Moglia was hit by the 2012 Emilia earthquake, particularly by the earthquake that occurred on May 29th. The tremor caused serious damage to the town hall, the parish church, and several buildings in the historic center. Damage was also recorded in the hamlet of Bondanello, though less severe. In total, the amount of damage was around 104 million euros, with approximately 570 homes damaged, uninhabitable, or destroyed.

Emergency and Reconstruction

After the earthquake, emergency measures were implemented, such as the creation of a red zone pending intervention on various damaged buildings. The displaced people were accommodated in a camp set up by the Regional Civil Protection, which housed about 360 people. In the following weeks and months, several safety works were launched, including the demolition of the bell tower of the Bondanello church, the temporary painting of the town hall, and the creation of a new pump station to replace the unusable one. Works for the safety of the parish church started in August, while in September, a solution was found to cope with the unavailability of elementary and middle schools. In October, an ordinance was issued to allow the execution of provisional works that had been halted since mid-July.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Moglia was heavily hit by the 2012 earthquake, but thanks to the incessant work of local and regional authorities, the reconstruction and safety works were successfully completed. Today, Moglia is a town where people live calmly and serenely, and if you have the opportunity to visit it, I recommend doing so without hesitation!
