Piano Tavola
Welcome to Piano Tavola: a village divided among four municipalities
Welcome to Piano Tavola, a small town located in the metropolitan city of Catania. What makes our village special is that its territory is divided among four municipalities: Belpasso, Misterbianco, Camporotondo Etneo, and Motta Sant'Anastasia. Despite being a small village, we have a population of about 5,000 inhabitants, half of whom live in the territory of Belpasso.
History
The history of Piano Tavola is quite recent, as it was spontaneously founded in the 1950s and 1960s when there was an increase in industrial settlements in the area. Workers and immigrant laborers needed housing, so there was an expansion of the construction. The village grew so much that it involved four municipalities.
Many residents fear that the division among municipalities has led to a lack of services and infrastructure. However, after decades of waiting, in 2011 the community was supposed to vote for the establishment of the municipality of Piano Tavola. But the referendum was canceled on appeal by the municipality of Belpasso.
Economy
Piano Tavola is famous for the vast industrial development area located to the northeast, which hosts about 300 industrial and production activities. There are particularly agri-food, electromechanical, metal carpentry, industrial prefabs in C.A., metalworking, and freight and waste transport activities.
Infrastructure and Transport
The village is well connected to the main cities in the area. The main road is the old state road 121 that passes through the entire town east-west. The Mongibello road, orthogonal to it, leads to the municipalities to the north.
The Circumetnea Railway also passes through Piano Tavola, and the Belpasso-Camporotondo station is right here. Our community is also connected to the main cities in the area by an urban bus service.
Sports
For football fans, Piano Tavola offers the opportunity to follow A.S.D Piano Tavola football, which currently plays in the third category Catania, group A.
In short, despite the division among municipalities, our village is a small but lively community with a lot to offer. Come and visit us!
