The origins of the village of Missanello date back to the year 968 when San Vitale, a Basilian abbot, passed through here. Over the centuries, the municipality has participated in the Risorgimento movements, and some Missanello patriots are mentioned by the historian Tommaso Pedio: Paolo Ciruzzi, Rocco Spina, Giuseppe Alianelli, and Giuseppe Arcuri.
Symbols of Missanello
The municipal coat of arms of Missanello depicts a shield with a blue background and five silver lozenges, while the gonfalon is a white cloth with a blue border. Both were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on July 22, 1991.
