Campocroce: history, nature and traditions in the province of Venice.

Origins of the name

The toponym Campocroce has Latin origins and dates back to Roman times. According to the most accredited hypothesis, the name derives from the field (which is therefore linked to the agricultural peculiarities of the territory) on which an important Christian cross of Christ was erected, a distinctive symbol of the religion that was beginning to spread in these areas at that time.

History

Campocroce, included in the Roman grid, belonged to the territory of Padua already in Roman times. The first mention of the toponym Campocroce appears in an ordinance published in the thirteenth century by the podestà Gerardino Longo.

In 1292, there is a notification of the excommunication launched by the Patriarch of Aquileia Raimondo della Torre against Campocroce as a rectory dependent on Zianigo together with Veternigo and Salzano.

Don Orione

In 1919, Count Marco Soranzo donated the Venetian villa and the entire land property of Campocroce to Saint Luigi Orione for the creation of a place of welcome for orphans of the First World War. In 1930, the place was transformed into a seminary.

Notes

In conclusion, Campocroce is a place where history, nature and traditions intersect and blend to offer visitors a unique and unforgettable experience.
