Mirabello Monferrato
Welcome to Mirabello Monferrato
Hello everyone! Welcome to Mirabello Monferrato, a small yet charming town in the heart of the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont. We are thrilled to share with you some of the local history and beauty.
History
Mirabello has a thousand-year-long history, starting from the Carolingian era and continuing under the control of the Marquisate of Monferrato. The town experienced the feudal period until 1797, when Feudalism was abolished in Piedmont. During this long period of time, various families succeeded one another in owning different jurisdictions, such as the Gambera and Solaro families. An interesting story is that of Baldesco, a fraction of Mirabello, which was feudally subjugated by local families Roccia and Natta. In the 18th century, the Mirabello community faced a dispute with Marquess Virginio Natta on several issues, including the use of Mirabello's water, which led to acts of violence, such as the assault on the criminal notary conducting the investigation.
Mirabello Today
Today, Mirabello is a small town of approximately 1,300 inhabitants, immersed in a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. The historic center is quite small but well-preserved, offering numerous opportunities for walks and guided tours. The symbol of the town is the Civic Tower, nearly 30 meters high, which is a testament to Mirabello's millennial history. The bell tower has been recently restored and now offers a spectacular view of the surrounding hills. Don't miss the chance to visit the Parish Church of San Giorgio, which houses a valuable 16th-century painting.
Among the prominent cultural events, we are reminded of the Sagra degli Agnolotti, an annual festival celebrating the typical dish of Piedmontese cuisine. During the festival, the historic center comes to life with stalls, food stands, concerts, and children's shows.
What to Do in Mirabello
Mirabello is also an ideal destination for nature and outdoor enthusiasts. The area is rich in trekking paths, mountain bike trails, and, in winter, snowshoeing. For golf lovers, we recommend the Margara Golf Club, located just a few kilometers away. Not far from Mirabello is the Natural Park of Capanne di Marcarolo, an oasis of peace and tranquility where you can take long walks amidst unspoiled nature.
For those who want to discover the flavors of the local area, there are several agricultural companies where you can buy typical Monferrato products, such as wine and truffles.
