History

If you want to know the origin of the municipality of Minerbio, you need to go back to the Roman era when the territory was already inhabited. In the Middle Ages, the municipality was founded and called Minerbium. But who are the Isolani? In our history, these sons of Cyprus arrived in Bologna in the early 1300s and became wealthy silk merchants. Later, they acquired land and became true feudal lords. The Church of San Giovanni Battista in Minerbio, built on the testamentary order of the feudal lord Domenico Isolani, is one of the most beautiful in the forese of Bologna.

Minerbio's Participation in the Battle of Casalecchio di Reno

On June 28, 1402, Minerbio took part in the battle fought near Casalecchio di Reno, outside Porta Saragozza. In that battle, armed Isolani participated in the war against the Bentivoglio, and their troops took possession of the city.

Also, in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, the podestà Federico da Lavellolungo from Brescia ceded the territory of Altedo and Minerbio to 150 Mantuan families. It is not yet known why these families moved to the Bolognese territory, but perhaps it was due to fleeing the struggles between the Guelphs and Ghibellines or the changing environmental conditions that would have worsened living conditions in the Mantuan.

Conclusion

That's everything you need to know about the municipality of Minerbio, where you can find a blend of history, nature, and culture. The metropolitan city of Bologna has a treasure here in Minerbio, so don't miss the opportunity to visit. Come and visit Minerbio!
