Over the centuries, Mignano Monte Lungo subsequently came under the control of the Lombards Duchy of Benevento, the County of Capua, the Normans, the Hohenstaufens, the Angevins and the Aragonese. The Castle of Mignano, still present today, was the site of historic battles between enemy armies.
One cannot fail to mention the battle of 1139 which pitted the Normans, led by Roger II of Sicily, against the army of Pope Innocent II. The pope's defeat led to the signing of the Treaty of Mignano, which was signed in the Campanian city.
During the Second World War, Mignano Monte Lungo was the scene of two important battles as part of the Italian Campaign. In 1943, the First Motorized Group of the Royal Army under the command of General Vincenzo Dapino was tasked with participating in the breakthrough of the Volturno Line. The Italians then tried to conquer Monte Lungo but suffered heavy losses and were forced to retreat.
