Mezzana Bigli

History
The name Mezzana Bigli has Latin origins, as the town is located between the Po, Agogna, and Scrivia rivers, and Mezzana corresponds to the meaning of "river island". In 1250, the list of the Pavia territories of ''Glarea Mezana'' was recorded. Until 1800, it was part of the center of Gerola, which today is a fraction of Casei Gerola, but in the past, it was very important. Gerola belonged to the lordship of Corti di Guazzora, and the town was called "Mezzana Corti". In 1525, Mezzana Bigli was enfeoffed to the "Bigli" or "Biglia" of Milan, and the feud of the Bigli family was abolished only in 1797. In 1800, a Napoleonic decree made the boundaries of municipalities and provinces correspond to the rivers, and Mezzana became part of Lomellina, separated from Oltrepò Pavese.
Symbols
The symbol of the Municipality consists of the coat of arms and flag, granted in 2012 by the President of the Republic. The image represents the Po river through the Gemella in wavy band, and the ears of wheat symbolize the main crop, while the stars highlight its different fractions. The flag is yellow with a blue border.
