Tipoldo
Hello everyone!
Here I am to talk to you about Tipoldo, a beautiful hamlet in Messina, Sicily. With its 289 inhabitants and 399 meters above sea level on the Peloritani Mountains, Tipoldo is a small village that deserves to be discovered. But let's get into the details, here's what I found out:
The toponym
Let's start with the name of this village, which seems to have ancient origins. In fact, it seems that the toponym "Tipoldo" is derived from the Latinized Greek name "Thobaldus, Thopoldus", meaning Strong Captain. It is believed that the name comes from an important local historical figure, perhaps the founder of the village or the feudal lord of these lands.
History
Tipoldo has an interesting history, rooted in the delegation of Mili San Pietro, as evidenced by the strong ties between the Tipoldo and Mili families. During the Second World War, Tipoldo managed to maintain its independence, although the inhabitants had to go to Mili San Pietro to access basic public services. Only after the construction of the civic aqueduct and the first carriage road to Larderia and Messina, the village was considered such.
Economy
Tipoldo is a small village that is mainly dedicated to agriculture. Despite the territory not being very vast, the surrounding area offers many opportunities for this activity. In particular, viticulture is one of the most important sectors. The wine produced here is very loved and appreciated. In addition to viticulture, olive growing also involves a large number of inhabitants in harvesting, processing, and preservation of products. But that's not all: the inhabitants of Tipoldo also cultivate vegetables and citrus fruits, making this village a very productive and efficient place.
Roads and public transport
As for connections, Tipoldo is connected to the city center by the urban buses of the ATM line n° 6 (ZIR (Capolinea sud tramvia-Tipoldo). The municipal road is the most important communication route leading to the village, while another road, steep, connects Tipoldo to the Provincial Road n° 38 of Mili S. Pietro. For minor roads, there are alleys and staircases leading to different corners of the village.
Places of Worship
Finally, there are important places of worship in Tipoldo. In the past, the parish of Tipoldo was united with that of Larderia, but today it is instead reunited with that of Mili San Pietro, forming the new parish of San Pietro apostolo and San Giuseppe.
In short, Tipoldo is a small village but rich in history and beauty. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet of a hilly village, but at the same time experience the productivity of the territory that has nothing to envy to larger cities. If you are looking for an authentic place to enjoy Sicilian nature, culture, and food, then do not hesitate to visit Tipoldo. I really recommend it!
