San Foca
Welcome to San Foca, a coastal town in Salento
San Foca is a charming coastal town located in Salento, with a population of 374 inhabitants. It is a hamlet of the marina of Melendugno, in the province of Lecce, and is located between Torre Specchia Ruggeri and Roca Vecchia, on the Adriatic Sea. Its marina is one of the most important along the coast between Brindisi and Otranto.
The coast and its characteristics
The coast of the marina of San Foca is characterized by two sandy coves, one to the north and one to the south of the marina. Some rocky formations with characteristic shapes can also be found, such as "li brigantini," "lo scoglio del sale," and "lo scoglio dell'otto." The Adriatic Sea has mostly sandy bottoms and only rocky in some areas, and some areas allow for the development of Posidonia meadows.
Monuments and places of interest
Among the places to visit in San Foca is the Tower of San Foca, also known as the Tower of San Fucà or Capo di Sapone. It was built in 1568 by the master Antonio Saponaro di Lecce to protect the area from Turkish invasions. The tower has a square base and a truncated-pyramidal body and has been restored and used as an office for the Port Captaincy.

The climate of San Foca is Mediterranean with mild and rainy winters and hot and dry summers. The average annual temperature is 17.9°C.
