Robbiano

The story of Robbiano

Robbiano is a small hamlet located to the north of the inhabited center of Mediglia, on the outskirts of Milan. Of ancient origins, it has always been closely linked to the Milanese territory and belonged to the Pieve di San Giuliano Milanese. It borders Zeloforamagno and Peschiera Borromeo to the north, Cascina Mercugnano to the east, Mediglia to the south, and Carpianello and Bolgiano to the west.

At the census of 1751, the population of Robbiano amounted to 142 residents. In 1805, during the Napoleonic era, the number of inhabitants rose to 218, but in 1809 the Municipality of Robbiano was abolished and for the first time added to that of Mediglia. Later, in 1816, it regained autonomy thanks to the establishment of the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom.

However, in 1841, the Austrians arranged for the definitive annexation of Robbiano to the Municipality of Mediglia, including the rationality of Napoleon's work.

The Episode of the Red Brigades

Robbiano became famous in 1974, when it was the scene of a shootout between the police and the Red Brigades member Roberto Ognibene. This shooting resulted in the death of Carabiniere Marshal Felice Maritano, killed by Ognibene who managed to escape. However, he was arrested after a few days.

The house where the shooting took place was a hideout of the Red Brigades and important documents of the terrorist organization were found inside.
