Mazzano, also known as Mazà in Brescia dialect, is an Italian municipality located in the province of Brescia in Lombardy. A charming town where history meets modernity and the beauty of the landscape.

The history of Mazzano

Mazzano has an ancient history that begins with its foundation in 1861, during the formation of the Kingdom of Italy when it had only 1,256 inhabitants. Over the years, the city has grown to reach its current 12,583 inhabitants.

In 1928, the territory of the abolished municipality of Ciliverghe was annexed to Mazzano, which today, along with Molinetto, is one of the fractions of the municipality. After the Fall of the Italian Social Republic in 1945, the National Liberation Committee of Mazzano took over the administration.

The symbols of Mazzano

The coat of arms and the banner of Mazzano were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1983. Several emblems are gathered in the shield: the lion and the tree derive from the previous coat of arms of Mazzano, already in use in 1925; the mill wheel reminds of the fraction of Molinetto, and the mountains are the ancient symbol of the municipality of Ciliverghe.

The town of Mazzano has witnessed a remarkable demographic evolution over the years, with a constant population growth. Currently, the municipality counts about 12,583 inhabitants.

Infrastructure and transportation

Mazzano had in the past two important railway connections, the Rezzato-Vobarno railway, in service from 1897 to 1968, and the Brescia-Vestone-Idro tramway, operating from 1881 to 1932. The territory is currently served by a bus station and a railway station.

The administration of Mazzano

The administration of Mazzano has been led by several mayors elected directly by the citizens since 1995. In 2003, Mazzano established an important twinning with the French municipality of Saint-Germain-des-Fossés, located in Allier, ten kilometers from Vichy.

Sports in Mazzano

Mazzano has a great passion for sports and boasts the presence of the soccer club Polisportiva Ciliverghe A.S.D., which plays in Serie D and plays in the municipal stadium of Mazzano. Since 1986, there has also been a regularity march in the mountains, sponsored by the FIE (Italian Hiking Federation) and organized by the Alpine Sports Directorate of Mazzano.
