The wonderful province of Macerata

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about the province of Macerata, a beautiful area in Marche that hosts a lot of enchanting tourist and cultural attractions. The province has about 303,684 inhabitants, with its capital in Macerata.

Physical geography

The province of Macerata is very large, in fact, since 2009 it has been the largest in Marche with its 2972 square kilometers. To the east, the province overlooks the Adriatic Sea, while to the west it borders the Umbria region, in the province of Perugia. Since 2004, it is the only province in Marche to border with three other provinces of the same region: to the north the province of Ancona, to the southwest the province of Ascoli Piceno and, finally, to the south that of Fermo. The Umbro-Marchigiano Apennines cross the province of Macerata and there are three groups of mountain municipalities, which are worth visiting: the Potenza Esino Musone Mountain Union, the Camerino Mark Mountain Union and the Monti Azzurri Mountain Union.

Province of Macerata: natural and cultural treasures

History

The province of Macerata derives from the homonymous delegation of the State of the Church. Over time, it has undergone numerous territorial changes, but in 1929 it received the municipality of Visso, which belonged to the province of Perugia as a gift.

Economy

In the province of Macerata, there are many small but highly specialized companies, with a very significant footwear sector. In 2006, the Bank of the Province of Macerata was established.

Infrastructure and transport

Before the era of automobiles, the province was crossed by historical roads that led to Rome; some of these are still visible. The most important was the Via Lauretana (Umbria-Marche), which from Foligno entered, through the Colfiorito plateau, in Marche at Serravalle di Chienti. With the arrival of trains, the Rome-Ancona railway was traced through the Fossato di Vico-Fabriano-Vall'Esina Pass, which took away the ambitions of the province to see a railway artery directly connecting to the capital. However, around 1885, a line was built that separated at Albacina, just after Fabriano, towards Ancona and that arrived in Civitanova Marche, crossing the provincial capital of Macerata and other important cities such as Matelica, San Severino Marche, Tolentino, Corridonia, and Montecosaro. Camerino was connected to this railway to Castelraimondo by the Castelraimondo-Camerino Railway, now dismantled and replaced by a bus service.

In conclusion, the province of Macerata is a marvelous country, with a variety of natural and historical attractions that deserve to be visited. From the beautiful mountains of the Apennines to the cultural treasures of the city of Macerata, this province has a lot to offer!
