Massimeno
Massimeno, the least inhabited municipality in Trentino-Alto Adige
Dear readers, today I will talk about a municipality that may seem nonexistent, but instead has an interesting history to discover. I'm talking about Massimeno, the least inhabited municipality in Trentino-Alto Adige, with only 145 residents.
History
The history of the town has a certain degree of mystery, as we are not certain of the location of its ancient settlement. It is said to have been located in the clearing north of the church of San Giovanni, an area called Castèl, perhaps in memory of a Massimo Castle. In any case, the town was destroyed by a landslide or fire, and subsequently rebuilt in a lower position. The name Massimeno would derive from the Latin name "Maximino de Rendena", which is found on the Edict of Constantine.
The town is also known for the great presence of sharpeners, or moleti in the Rendena dialect. Between 1800 and 1900, many sharpeners emigrated to England, the United States, Argentina, and Australia in search of fortune, but many of their descendants returned to the village.
Monuments and places of interest
Although it is a very small town, Massimeno has several interesting places to visit. The church of Madonna di Loreto is located in the center of the town, while the church of San Giovanni Battista is located in the north. To the south, there is the church of San Luigi Gonzaga.
Society
As already mentioned, the municipality of Massimeno has about 145 inhabitants. The town is administered by a civic list called Nuovi Orizzonti, whose current mayor is Norman Masè.
Curiosities
One curiosity related to Massimeno concerns the presence of a scout group called "Gruppo scout Massimeno - Pinzolo", which plays an important educational role in the local community.
In conclusion, Massimeno is a small town with an interesting history and several monuments to visit. If you are looking for a quiet place away from the chaos of the city, this town could be the right destination for you.
