Today, it is an important center for various activities such as universities, tourism, art, and culture. The city is also known for some of the food delicacies it has given to the world, such as vermouth, gianduiotti chocolates, grissini breadsticks, and espresso. After the domination of the Ostrogoths, Turin became the capital of the Duchy of Turin and then passed under the rule of the House of Savoy. In 1563, it officially became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy. In 1720, with the Kingdom of Sardinia, Turin became the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865.
