Massalengo

Welcome to Massalengo

Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about Massalengo, a municipality of almost 4,600 inhabitants in the province of Lodi, in Lombardy.

An ancient history

The history of Massalengo dates back to the ninth century when the area was owned by the Benedictine monks of the Church of San Pietro Apostolo in Lodi Vecchio. Later, the Salerano family took possession of it, while in 1224 it was transferred to the Captains of Cornegliano Laudense. The municipality changed hands several times before being assigned to Count Pietro Massalenghi in 1661 and Antonio Vigani in 1756. During the Napoleonic era, from 1809 to 1816, Lanfroia and Motta Vigana were united with Massalengo, and then they became independent with the establishment of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom. Motta Vigana was finally annexed permanently in 1879.
