Massa di Somma is an Italian municipality located in the Metropolitan City of Naples in Campania. With a population of about 4,955 inhabitants, it is located at the foot of Mount Somma, northwest of Vesuvius, and is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes.

History
The municipality has an ancient history dating back to 1028 when the existing hamlets came under the control of the Lombards. Over the centuries, various rulers followed, including the Normans and the Swabians. In 1944, the eruption of Vesuvius almost completely destroyed the village. Today, Massa di Somma appears in a modern aspect.

Anthropomorphic geography and administrative history
Massa, Pollena, and Trocchia were formerly three villages under the rule of the Lombards. Later, with the reform of municipal administration, they were unified into a single municipality. When Fascism moved the municipal seat to Cercola, Massa di Somma was established as an autonomous municipality in 1988.
Economy
Massa di Somma is a city that mainly lives on agriculture. Here there are orchards and grape and fruit cultivations, as well as some industries active in construction, food, and clothing. The presence of Vesuvius National Park invites many tourists to hiking and guided tours.
Administration
The municipality is chaired by Mayor Riccardo Cantelmo and divided into two municipal fractions: Caravita belonging to the municipality of Cercola, and Cercola.
