Masone
Masone: a gem in the Stura Valley
Masone is a small community located in the beautiful Stura Valley, in the metropolitan city of Genoa in Liguria. With a population of just over 3000 inhabitants, Masone is a charming gem hidden in the Beigua Regional Nature Park and is famous for its location on the northern side of the Ligurian Apennine watershed, near the Ligurian coast.
Physical Geography
Masone is known to be an important center in the Stura Valley, with many prominent peaks in the area. The urban center of Masone is divided into two nuclei: the "Old Town," located on the southern slopes, and the "New Town," located in the alluvial plain on the right bank of the Stura di Ovada stream.
Climate
The climate in Masone is continental, with cold winters and temperatures hovering around zero degrees Celsius. Snow is abundant and frequently present between December and March, with snow accumulations that can reach up to 50cm per event. Summer, on the other hand, is cool thanks to the sea breeze that cools the summer afternoons. The climate of Masone is characterized by its high rainfall, due to its location immediately beyond the Ligurian Apennines and the particular morphology of the surrounding terrain. When there are humid currents coming from the South-Southwest, they encounter a natural obstacle in the southern foothills of Mount Beigua, and not being able to overcome them, they literally slide over them, then flowing towards the North-Northeast in the direction of the high Stura Valley.
