History

Campomarino is a locality that arose in the 20th century, where the Torre Moline, a 15th century lookout tower, and the Palazzo Seminarile were already present. In addition, there was also a small harbor that has been modified over time.

Port

The port of Campomarino is the only port structure located on the coast from Porto Cesareo to Taranto. It is divided into two parts, the fishing port and the tourist port, also called darsena Blue. The tourist port has a large square, where concerts and shows take place. Near the fishing port, there is a summer market. The whole port is protected by two jetties.

Piazzale Italia

The Piazzale Italia, also called the Rotonda or Piazzetta, is the center of Campomarino. It was built in 1958, where the Torre delle Moline was located. In 2009, the square was modified and now consists of terraces overlooking the port.

Beaches

The Maruggese coast has 9 km of very diverse coastline, with beautiful beaches. The Acquadolce Cirenaica beach is very famous for the presence of fresh water sources in the sea, which give the water a particular color and clarity. The Madonnina beach has a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The D'Ayala beach is the least accessible but the most unspoiled. The Vento and Porto beaches are located near the tourist port. Finally, there are Giannarelli and Monaco Mirante beaches, with very high dunes and cliffs that enclose small coves.
