Marudo is a small town in the province of Lodi, in the region of Lombardy. With a population of 1765 inhabitants, its history is interesting and rich in events that have shaped its development and identity.
History of Marudo
After the 10th century, Marudo was part of several ecclesiastical entities in Lodi, including the ancient Santa Cristina and Bissone, the Longobard foundation monastery, and the Church of San Pietro Apostolo. In the 18th century it passed to the Archinto marquises and then to the Cusani marquises in 1787. During the Napoleonic era, Marudo was a fraction of Caselle Lurani, but regained autonomy with the establishment of the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom. In 1869, the municipality of Marudo incorporated the municipalities of Castiraga and Vidardo, but both fractions were again separated in 1902 to form a new single municipality, called Castiraga Vidardo.

The municipal coat of arms and the flag were granted by a decree of the President of the Republic on February 9, 1990. The flag is white.

The parish church dedicated to Saints Gervaso and Protaso is one of the most important attractions in Marudo. Built in 1790 on the ruins of a small oratory, some fragments of the original frescoes are still visible today.

In 1860 a mill with a rice processing plant began operating, which constituted the first nucleus of what is now the multinational of the rice sector, Riso Scotti, transferred to Pavia and the Province of Pavia. Cattle breeding is also an integral part of the local economy, along with some craft businesses. Many residents of Marudo work in Milan, with over 50% engaged in daily commuting.

Volleyball
The Tomolpack Marudo volleyball team is the main sports club in the city. Active for over 30 years, it has participated in the Lodi and Lombardy championships, winning first place in the Serie C group in 2016 and promotion to the national B2.
