Martis
Welcome to Martis, a town rich in history and culture
Located in the province of Sassari, Martis is a municipality with a long history dating back to the Nuragic era, as evidenced by the nuraghe present in the territory. Its location in the Anglona area, in northwestern Sardinia, makes it a perfect place to discover the culture and traditions of the region.
Let's discover the history of Martis
During the Middle Ages, the town was part of the Giudicato di Torres, in the curatoria of Anglona. Over time, it passed from the hands of the Malaspina to those of the Doria and Aragonese, until it became part of the principality of Anglona in the 18th century. After the suppression of the feudal system, the municipality became autonomous.
The coat of arms of the municipality reproduces four symbols present in the territory. The siren, the pinecone, the palm tree, and the Templar cross represent the history and tradition of the town.
Monuments and places of interest
Martis is rich in churches and chapels, including the Church of San Giovanni, the Church of San Pantaleo, the Church of the Madonna del Rosario, the Church of San Giuseppe, the Church of San Leonardo, and the Oratory of Santa Croce. Each sacred building has a history and architecture that represents the culture of Anglona.
Society
The demographic evolution of Martis has seen a decrease in inhabitants in recent years, but the town remains alive thanks to the passion of its residents for local culture and traditions. The dialect spoken in Martis is a variant of the Northern Logudorese Sardinian language.
