Marone
Welcome to Marone: a mountain town overlooking Lake Iseo
Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about the town of Marone, a beautiful mountain village overlooking Lake Iseo. Located in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, Marone has about 3,000 inhabitants and boasts an ancient and interesting history.
Physical Geography: Mountains and Waterways
Marone is located on the eastern shore of Lake Iseo, at about 200 meters above sea level. The territory is predominantly mountainous, and borders on Toline, a hamlet of the municipality of Pisogne to the north, the village of Zone to the east and Sale Marasino to the south. Among the watercourses present, the most important are the Bagnadore and Opol streams. The latter descends from the Croce di Marone Pass and receives the Sestola stream, which presents an underground channel that is very important for the industrial development of the town.
History: From the Roman Era to an Industrial Center
Marone has a rich and interesting history. During the Roman era, it was crossed by the Valeriana Road, which connected Brescia with Val Camonica along the shores of Lake Iseo. Some archaeological finds discovered near the remains of a Roman villa in the "Cò de Ela" locality could demonstrate that the first settlements took place during the Roman era. During the Middle Ages, the inhabitants settled in more defensible locations, away from the lake and the streams, such as Pregasso. In the 16th century, Marone became the capital and began its development as an industrial center.
Symbols of the Municipality of Marone
The official coat of arms of Marone is silver with a wooden Latin cross arising from the wavy bank, lowered in blue with a branch of chestnut leafed and fruited with three natural ones.
What to See in Marone
Marone offers many wonders to those who want to explore it. The Marone-Zone railway station, on the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo railway line, is an oasis of peace and tranquility, surrounded by trees and meadows. The church of San Martino Vescovo is an imposing construction that dates back to the 18th century and houses several works of art.
