The history of Mareno di Piave

Mareno di Piave has an ancient history, as evidenced by archaeological finds dating back to the Roman era. However, it is in the Middle Ages that the town begins to have significant development. One of the main roads in the region, Via Ungaresca, passes right through Mareno di Piave. This road represented the main connection between Marca Trevigiana and Friuli, and crossed the current hamlets of Santa Maria del Piave, Bocca di Strada and Ramera.

Other important events in the history of Mareno di Piave include the construction of a structure called "Hospitale" in 1009 near the monastery of Santa Maria del Piave. This structure was intended to accommodate pilgrims on their travels. In addition, the first hydraulic reclamation works of the territory were carried out, which continued for several centuries, even after the famous flood of the Piave river in 1368.

Over the centuries, Mareno di Piave was dominated by the larger town of Conegliano and, subsequently, in 1388 it became part of the Republic of Venice, under whose control it remained until the fall of the Republic at the hands of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1797.
