Casone

Casone: the small village of Menedrago

If you are looking for a peaceful place surrounded by nature, Casone might be the right place for you. This small village is located northeast of Marcallo with Casone, in the province of Milan, and is separated from the city by the traffic of the A4 highway.

Physical geography

Casone is situated in a predominantly flat area, typical of the Po Valley, and most of the territory is dedicated to agriculture. In the heart of this town there is the "Oasis of Menedrago", an artificial body of water that formed as a result of the construction work for the high-speed railway. Nevertheless, this place represents one of the most important realities for the local fauna, hosting fish, herons, and royal herons.

History

Menedrago was an ancient municipality of the province of Milan during the 16th century until 1859. The municipality included the localities of Menedrago, Casone, Barco, Asmonte (now a municipality of Ossona), and Cascina Nuova. The reason why the seat of the municipality was chosen in Menedrago was the large farmhouse present on site. This farmhouse was a powerful structure that hosted numerous farmers and their families, and in its vicinity there were also stables, barns, granaries, wells, ovens, porches, warehouses, and farmers' dwellings.

Geology and hydrography

The soil of Casone is geologically composed of alluvial and travertine soils, whose formation dates back to the Pleistocene (2.58 million - 11,700 years ago). The area hosts the Oasis of Menedrago, where a great variety of water-related animals, such as herons and royal herons, can be found.

Seismology

From a seismological point of view, Casone is classified as zone 4 (low seismicity) by the National Department of Civil Protection.

If you are looking for a peaceful place surrounded by nature, Casone is definitely the perfect destination to relax and enjoy the landscape.
