Marina
Welcome to Marina di Maratea!
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Marina di Maratea, the magnificent hamlet in Maratea that is located in the province of Potenza. This seaside resort is the largest in the municipal territory of Maratea and is located on the beautiful coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, at the foot of Mount Serra di Castrocucco, which is a whopping 723 meters high.
Discovering the geography of Marina
Marina is located in the Basilicata region, a short distance from Campania and right on the border between Lucania and Calabria. The hamlet is just 5.3 km from the historic center of the city of Maratea and 5 km from the hamlet of Castrocucco. In addition, it is just 10 km from Praia a Mare, in the province of Cosenza, 11 km from Tortora and 23 km from Sapri, in the province of Salerno.
In the Marina di Maratea area, it is also possible to find Ilicini, a characteristic forest of dwarf oaks, whose growth is hindered by the saltiness of the sea. This place offers an incredible panoramic view of the coast and other beautiful small beaches.
The amazing beaches
The beaches in Marina are truly wonderful! If you visit Marina, you cannot miss these destinations:
Cala Jannita: This beach owes its name to the island of Santo Janni and its distinctive dark color of sand, which gives the beach the name "black beach". Here, you can admire the stunning Sciabella cave located on the southern side.
Ilicini: Not far from the forest of dwarf oaks, this small and stony beach can be found. Despite its size, its curtain of rocks guarantees an incredible atmosphere.
Calavecchia: This beach, overhung by oaks, is a thin strip of sand and stones that is located at the bottom of a rocky wall.
Cala Grande or Cala 'i Don Nicola: One of the most imposing beaches in Marina, it is a large beach set in a very characteristic stretch of coast with dense vegetation that almost reaches the sea. Here, you can try the famous Macarro, a beach resort that gives the beach its name.
Ricciullu, L'Abissu and Mpedi 'u Citru: These three small beaches are located in the basin between Cala Grande and A Scala. Accessible only by sea or on foot, they offer their unique charm.
'A Scala: A small and fine-sand beach, located in the area known as Calaficarra. There are charming coves and small caves set among the rocks on its sides.
Santa Teresa: This beach is known as the "beach of Marina" or "Calaficarra" and is located just below the summit of Mount Serra. It is composed of three parts divided by rocks.
'U Porticeddu: This rock slab extends between two chains of rocks and was used in the past by local fishermen for fishing and collecting salt and limpets. On its southern side, there is the Judia cave.
