Marano Ticino
Welcome to Marano Ticino: some information about the city
Hello! Are you ready to explore the city of Marano Ticino with me? Located in the province of Novara in Piedmont, this welcoming town has about 1560 inhabitants and extends along the banks of the Ticino river.
Physical geography
Marano Ticino is the typical city of the Po Valley, with a territory characterized by not very pronounced differences between the various altitudes. The central-eastern position of the city places it on the border with Lombardy and the province of Varese, within the Natural Park of the Ticino Valley.
Origin of the name
Do you think Marano Ticino has Roman origins? It is said that the toponym Marano derives from "Maranus", which means "Mario's territory". In 1862, the name of the town was changed from Marano to Marano Ticino by a royal decree of Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoy.
History
Marano Ticino has a fascinating history! In the past, it belonged to the Pombia Committee and the Lords Da Castello. Subsequently, the territory came under the control of the Municipality of Novara with the peace of Buccione. In 1301, the city was then occupied by the Visconti and Barbavara families, while in 1436, Filippo Maria Visconti handed over Marano Ticino to the Castiglioni family, who remained the lords of the city until the eighteenth century. In the following century, their property passed to the Carena-Castiglioni counts until the beginning of the twentieth century.
