Marano Marchesato
Discovering Marano Marchesato
Hello everyone!
Today I want to talk to you about Marano Marchesato, a small town in the province of Cosenza, Calabria. With its 3334 inhabitants, Marano Marchesato overlooks the hills that overlook the city of Cosenza on the central-eastern slope of the Paolana Chain.
The history of Marano Marchesato
There is no certain information about the origin of the municipality, but according to archaeology, its formation dates back to the aftermath of the earthquake that occurred on March 27, 1638, which caused the death of about ten thousand people in the province of Cosenza. After the earthquake, some families who lived in the nearby towns of Rende and Castelfranco took refuge in the countryside adjacent to Marano, where they then built houses and gave birth to a new agglomeration.
In the following years, the municipality developed and its districts were the subject of a dispute between the princes of Sersale di Castelfranco and the Marquises Alarcon y Mendoza of Rende. The dispute was only resolved in 1684 when the court of the Counter-Council of Naples intervened on the matter. After this phase, Marano Marchesato became a casale of Rende and followed its political and social events until 1806, the year of the feudal overthrow.
The society
The demographic evolution of Marano Marchesato has been quite stable in recent years. The municipality has some road infrastructures that connect it to the nearby cities of Cosenza and Castelfranco.
The administration
Since May 27, 2013, the Mayor of Marano Marchesato is Eduardo Vivacqua, elected with the civic list "Together".
The inhabited centers
The center of Marano Marchesato consists of a main nucleus and four contiguous fractions: Perri, Piano, Carmine, and Malvitani.
Sports
Marano Marchesato is represented in amateur football by Unione Sportiva Marano, a football team born in 2015 and affiliated with the FIGC. The company is located in Via Curcio in Marano Marchesato and was born with the intention of uniting the two communities of Marano Marchesato and the neighboring Marano Principato.
Having said that, if you are looking for a quiet place where you can enjoy the Calabrian hillside landscape, Marano Marchesato is the right place for you!
