Manziana is a small town in the Rome Capital Metropolitan Area in Lazio, with a population of about 7800 inhabitants. Located on the hills of Sabatini Mountains, the town is famous for its natural beauty and mild climate during the summer months.

Physical Geography

Manziana's territory is located on Sabatini Mountains, on the northern slopes of the ancient Sabatino volcano. The landscape inspired the director Sergio Corbucci to shoot the exteriors of his film ''Il giorno più corto'' in 1963. The climate is mild during the summer and cool between summer and autumn, while during the winter months temperatures can drop below zero.

History

Manziana has an ancient history dating back to the Etruscan times, when the territory was dedicated to the god of the afterlife Manth. Since the 12th century, the town was known as ''Santa Pupa## Il Castello'', one of the main possessions of the Prefetti di Vico family. Later passed to the Orsini counts, the town took its current name from the surrounding ''Bosco Macchia Grande'' from the late 16th century.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Manziana is famous for its Trajan Aqueducts, one of the most suggestive monuments of ancient Rome. Among the natural areas, the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Nature Park is a place of interest for those who love nature, as well as the Caldara di Manziana Natural Monument, Bosco Macchia Grande, Le Pietrische and Poggio Matrice.
