Discover the municipality of Manta: its monuments and places of interest

The municipality of Manta, located in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont, is a small town with just over 3,800 inhabitants, but it hides cultural treasures not to be missed. One of the most important monuments is the Castle of Manta, built in the 12th century and later acquired by the Marquis of Saluzzo. In the 15th century, thanks to Valerano, the castle was transformed into a castle court, and the artists called to decorate it created the cycle of frescoes by the Master of the Castle of Manta. In fact, the baronial hall presents a series of frescoes inspired by the chivalrous novel ''Chevalier Errant'', with the cycle of the ''Nine Worthies'' and the scene of the ''Fountain of Youth''.

Also not to be missed is the Church of Santa Maria al Castello which houses two environments referable to the two most significant monuments of the pictorial decoration of the castle and the Church of Santa Maria del Monastero, in Romanesque-Byzantine style, realized by the monks of the Order of St. Benedict of the abbey of San Dalmazzo di Pedona. Finally, climbing the hill between Manta and Saluzzo, there is the Sanctuary of San Leone Magno built in the 12th century.
