In 1651, San Martino was erected into a marquisate and over the centuries passed under the control of Sovana and then of Sorano. In 1929, it was finally annexed to the municipality of Manciano.

The church of San Martino is the main monument of the hamlet: built in the sixteenth century and completely rebuilt in the 1950s, it is an imposing structure in neo-Romanesque architecture with Moorish style accents. Inside, there are two seventeenth-century paintings, while the bell tower with a public clock was installed in 1985.
Near the village, there are the remains of the convent of San Francesco, founded at the same time as the birth of the village.
