Malosco, a municipality of history and culture
Malosco was a small municipality in the province of Trento, with a population of 439 inhabitants. Belonging to the parish of Sarnonico, together with Ronzone, Seio, Vasio and Cavareno, the town was rich in monuments and places of interest.
Monuments and places of interest
Among the religious architecture of the town stands out the Church of Santa Tecla, which served as a parish church. As for military architecture, there is the Castel Malosco.
Merger with the municipalities of Castelfondo and Fondo
On December 18, 2016, the town of Malosco decided by popular referendum to merge with the municipalities of Castelfondo and Fondo to form the new municipality of Borgo d'Anaunia. The merger was officially announced on January 1, 2020.
Society and population
The town had a small population, but was made up of a multicultural group of inhabitants. In the 2001 census, 41.85% of the population declared themselves as "Ladin".
Infrastructure and transport
Malosco was located along the provincial road 35 and had a stop for the Tranvia Dermulo-Fondo-Mendola between 1909 and 1934.
Administration
The town was administered by the municipal council, consisting of the mayor, the deputy mayor, and nine municipal councillors.
Conclusions
Malosco was a municipality rich in history and culture, with a religious and architectural heritage of considerable importance. Its multicultural population and its merger with the municipalities of Castelfondo and Fondo will give rise to Borgo d'Anaunia, a new municipality that unites the communities of the area.
