Loritto

Loritto, a gem to discover

Loritto is a hamlet of the municipality of Malonno, located in the Valle Camonica, in the province of Brescia. The beauty of this place can be reached via the municipal road that connects it to Malonno, which over the years has been consolidated and expanded in some points to make it safer and more easily passable.

Territory

Loritto is located on the west side of the mountain, facing east and is 110 km from Brescia. Around Loritto there are surrounding mountains that make the landscape even more fascinating, to which the inhabitants are particularly attached. In 2008-2009 a new power line was built that changed the landscape but did not affect the beauty of the nature of this place.

Loritto, a gem of nature among the mountains.

History

Loritto has an ancient and interesting history. Every year on March 18, on the eve of the patron saint's day of San Giuseppe, this tradition is celebrated with bonfires on the surrounding mountains and eating the barley soup "da domega" (from Sunday), which has become the typical dish for the occasion.

Monuments and places of interest

Loritto is renowned for the beauty of its forests, mushroom trails, and springs that offer particularly light and diuretic water properties. In addition, there is a completely artisanal and organic production, managed by a local family, of the Camuna mountain cheese, which represents an excellence of the territory.

The churches of Loritto, such as the Parish Church of San Giuseppe, from the sixteenth century and refurbished in 1911, and the Church of San Carlo, from the end of the sixteenth century, are religious monuments worth visiting.

Society

The population of Loritto, once numerous (about 200 inhabitants in the 60s), today stands at around 60 units. In the summer period, thanks to the presence of tourists, the number increases significantly, bringing to light the beauty of this place.

The local cuisine is excellent, especially in the trattoria open on Saturdays and Sundays, which offers a breathtaking view of the Adamello Group range.

Traditions and folklore

As in many other Italian villages, even in Loritto there are scütüm, nicknames that indicate characteristic traits of the community. What distinguishes the inhabitants of Loritto is "Oltüli".

Sports

Every year, since 1964, the prestigious Malonno-Passo di Fletta hill climb is organized. This event requires maximum preparation and the inhabitants of Loritto are always ready to cheer on the participants.

Conclusions

Loritto is a gem to discover. The beauty of the landscape, traditions, cuisine, and art gallery make this place extraordinary. Anyone who decides to visit it will not be disappointed.
