Malonno is a municipality in the Val Camonica, in the province of Brescia, with a population of 3013 inhabitants. The city has a long and interesting history dating back to prehistoric times.

The historic center of Malonno is characterized by three noble towers with irregular stone masonry, beautiful portals and arches. It is also possible to find remains of important houses of clear peasant structure and a smelting furnace.

History

The history of Malonno is very ancient and dates back to prehistoric times. However, the first inhabited nucleus probably arose where the village of Lava is located today, which remained for centuries the most important religious center in the area.

After the year 1000, the bishop of Brescia acquired vast properties in the Camunian land and received various benefits and privileges with the title of Duke of Val Camonica.

The Ghibellines, followers of the Empire, were led by the Federici, who allied themselves with other powerful local families. In particular, the Girardi and Celeri di Lovere settled in Malonno, with some Malonnesi participating in the revolt led by the Federici against the Guelf Brescia.

During the 14th and 15th centuries, the most powerful and influential Malonnesi families sided several times with the winners of the moment, changing owner and protector depending on the circumstances.

The Peace of Breno

The Peace of Breno in 1397 was an important historical event for Malonno. On that occasion, the representatives of the Malonnesi community sided with the Ghibelline shore.

The Approach to the Republic of Venice

Over time, the Malonnesi families increasingly approached the Republic of Venice, becoming part of its troops, tribunals, and delegates.

The Peace of Lodi

The Peace of Lodi marked the end of the Venetian-Milanese wars and the definitive emancipation of Malonno to the Republic of San Marco.
