Arnago

Welcome to Arnago, the hamlet of Malé

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Arnago, the beautiful hamlet of the municipality of Malé, located in the autonomous province of Trento. Having been an autonomous municipality until 1928, Arnago holds a long history that has made this village a unique place.

The history of Arnago

As I mentioned before, until 1928 Arnago was an autonomous municipality, but then it was aggregated to Malé. The history of this place is very ancient and dates back to Roman times. In fact, the name "Arnago" seems to derive from "urbs arnensis", meaning the city of bears, which was probably the name of a Roman postal station located in this area.

In the Middle Ages, Arnago was the center of the Solandro district, and its territory extended over much of the current Val di Sole. It was one of the first villages in Trentino to become a fiefdom of the bishops of Trento, and in 1628, with the construction of the church of Saints Romedio and Domenico, it reached its maximum splendor.

But it is not the only monument to visit in Arnago. There are also some ancient houses with characteristic arched windows, which have been restored and preserved over time. Furthermore, not to be missed is the Museum of pile-dwellings, located in the nearby hamlet of Raffresen, where you can discover the world of the ancient inhabitants of the alpine pile-dwellings.
