The Trento-Malé-Mezzana Railway: A Unique Experience Through the Beauty of Trentino
The Trento-Malé-Mezzana Railway, also known as ''Vaca Nonesa'' in the Trentino dialect and Nones language, is an electric traction and narrow-gauge railway that connects the city of Trento with Mezzana, passing through Malé, the capital of Val di Sole. On board this railway, passengers can admire the beauty of the Piana Rotaliana, Val di Non, and Val di Sole, accompanied by the Noce river, a stream in Trentino-Alto Adige.
History
The railway is the result of the renovation of the Trento-Malé tramway, inaugurated in 1909 by the Austro-Hungarian Empire and managed first by the Local Railway Trento-Malé and later by the Electric Railway Trento-Malé (FETM). After a series of events related to a lack of funds, the section between the tram station of Trento Torre Verde and Cles was opened in 1960, replacing the entire tram line. In June 1961, the railway section between Cles and Malé was inaugurated, and the Trento Porta Centa station building was completed in 1964. In 2002, FETM was integrated into Trentino Trasporti (TT), and in 2003, the extension to Marilleva in the municipality of Mezzana was inaugurated.

Additionally, the Autonomous Province of Trento financed the renewal of the railway equipment, electrification and telecommunication systems, ensuring an increasingly efficient and modern service.
