Welcome to the Province of Rimini!
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the Province of Rimini, a wonderful land in Emilia-Romagna, located in the heart of the Adriatic Riviera. Known worldwide for its beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters and its long tourist tradition, this area is also famous for its cuisine, art, and culture. In this text, I will guide you in discovering the beauty and history of this region.
The creation of the Province of Rimini
The Province of Rimini was created by decree in 1992, separating from the territory of the Province of Forlì, which became at the same time the Province of Forlì-Cesena. In 1995, the first elections were held and the first provincial council took its place. The area was expanded in 2009, when the seven municipalities of the Upper Valmarecchia, previously in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, were incorporated into the Province of Rimini. In 2021, even the municipalities of Montecopiolo and Sassofeltrio joined the province after a long parliamentary process.
Physical geography
The Province of Rimini is located in the Emilia-Romagna region and borders to the south with Marche (Province of Pesaro and Urbino) and the Republic of San Marino. To the east is the Adriatic Sea, to the north lies the Province of Forlì-Cesena, while to the west is Tuscany (Province of Arezzo). The provincial territory consists of five morphologically and landscaped homogeneous areas. The coastal strip, about 110 kilometers long, is entirely occupied by the coastal conurbation of the Romagna Riviera, which extends uninterrupted from Cervia to Gabicce Mare. The main center of this conurbation, as well as the province, is the city of Rimini.
The Beauty of the Romagna Riviera
The Province of Rimini is world-renowned for its breathtaking coasts. The Romagna Riviera extends for over 100 kilometers, offering visitors an extraordinary variety of beaches, from sandy ones to limestone cliffs to semi-hidden bays. Among the most famous beaches are those of Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica, Bellaria-Igea Marina, and Misano Adriatico. The water temperature is ideal for swimming from June to September, and the sand is perfect for long walks on the beach.
The Enclave of Ca' Raffaello
A curious aspect of the Province of Rimini is that it hosts a small Tuscan enclave called Ca' Raffaello, which is completely surrounded by the Province of Rimini. This small area belongs to the Province of Arezzo, but for historical and geographical reasons, it has remained completely surrounded by the territory of the Province of Rimini.
Art, Culture, and Gastronomy
The Province of Rimini has a rich cultural and artistic tradition. The city of Rimini offers numerous tourist attractions, including the famous Arch of Augustus, the Malatesta Temple, the City Museum, and the splendid cathedral. The province is also famous for Emilia-Romagna cuisine, which includes specialties such as piadina, egg pasta, Bolognese-style ragù, and the famous Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Last but not least, there is the famous Sangiovese wine, one of the most famous wines in Italy.
